A girl is murdered in a Mayfair Mews, the sort of girl who describes herself as a model. Was she a model, or was she something less reputable? Superintendent Manners isn't sure, but he slowly becomes convinced that the secret of the crime lies in the affluent suburban housing estate called The Dell. Dell-dwellers, like architect Dick Weldon and wine and food expert Jack Jenifer, think of themselves as living the mid-twentieth century, civilised life, but in The Dell there is one explosive element: red-headed, roughneck Solomon Grundy. Has Grundy killed the girl? Superintendent Manners thinks so. |
