HUGH FLOOD glared angrily at the telephone which rested on the table at the far end of the room of his Comfortably furnished bachelor apartment. Hugh, seated in a big chair with his feet on another, felt loath to disturb himself. He had been asleep when the ringing of the bell had awakened him, he had let it ring for half a minute or so in the hope the caller might decide he was out and hang up at the other end. |
