The drowsy little market town of Cobbleden in the Weald of Kent boasts an excellent Dramatic Society, sponsored by the Lord of the Manor. It has drawn together a diverse collection of members, some likeable, some not. Among the latter is George Gusset, the proprietor of " The Seven Grays " and Cobbleden's best amateur actor. He collapses in the middle of his biggest scene, the lights go out and the doctor's verdict is heart-failure. But a mysterious note sets Mr. Dilcey, the amiable producer of the Cobbleden Amateur Dramatic Society (The C. A.D.S.), thinking along very different lines.
