BOBBIE CHANDLER, business girl, late for her dinner appointment, took a taxi. Her foot touched an object which her torch revealed as a satin slipper in which to her amazement was an address and a frantic appeal for help. The taxi-driver refused to be involved: he wanted no trouble in the black-out. So Bobbie followed a lone trail to a luxury-flat, empty — save for the dead body of the famous Mavis Aldingham.
