There are occasions when the police are justified in taking the view that one nasty piece of work deserves another, and the case of the Thornwich letters is such an instance. Behind the letters is a lewd and brutish mind with the cunning born of a strong instinct for self-preservation. The only mind at Scotland Yard equipped to match these qualities is, of course, that of Chief Inspector Wilfred Dover, and the Yard is glad to spare him for this case. |
