Synopsis
The secretary of the famous Double Thirteen Club introduces the second story to be written by a member. This time the reader meets Seton Archer, a man who is caught up in a fateful web of intrigue when a beautiful woman summons him to a roadhouse club on the South Downs, just behind the village of Rottingdean. He learns for the first time the secret of the ill-fated Smedderton expedition along the inner reaches of the Amazon and of jungle knavery that wrecked several lives and indirectly influences his own. He learns, too, of a plan to swindle a European Government by means of a great currency fraud which would affect international relations.
