Rainbow descended on the valley of Middlehope in the West Country with the energy and methods of a man who intended to take over. Having extravagantly refurbished the big house of the village (from which he planned to extend his business of selling antiques) he moved in on every aspect of village life, even dislodging the church organist and taking over himself. In the saloon bar of the Gun Dog Miss de la Pole, a native aristocrat, remarked 'He won't do, you know.' |
