Further Information
John Phillips Marquand, was born in Delaware on 10th
November 1893 and was a winner of the Pulitzer Prize in 1938. The
majority of his novels, a further eighteen, are of a non-criminous
nature and therefore not included here. Whilst these novels eclipsed his
detective work in terms of critical acclaim the author himself even
dismissed them as 'his literary disgrace', they did provide a popular and
enduring series character. The author's literary ability shows itself
clearly in the characters and settings, which evoke all the passion and
atmosphere of their exotic locations. He passed away in 1960. |
