SYNOPSIS
In this story Mr. Joseph Hocking has broke new ground. It lacks nothing of the healthy atmosphere and manly tone which characterises his other works, but it adds a new element. It begins with a mystery ; a mystery so carefully and ingeniously conceived, that we doubt if any reader will have any idea of its solution until towards the end. The reader is drawn from incident to incident with breathless interest, and the excitement never flags until the last page is reached. Picture an old country house, the home of superstitious legends and a strange history. Picture a beautiful, lovable girl who radiates sunshine and gladness. Picture, too, a beautiful countryside in May. Then, suddenly, Miss Jennie Dun-stable disappears in the most impossible way
