The waters of the Bosphorus are tricky because four great Russian rivers run into the Black Sea from which, the only outlet is the Bosphorus, an eighteen mile long crack between Asia and Europe down which this great mass of water rushes as though it were, as someone said, being pulled through a keyhole. In places it is not as wide as the Thames at Woolwich.
