Elspeth Huxley was born in London on 23rd July 1907 but spent her childhood years in Kenya, hence the African theme that runs through her criminous work. Her series character was Superintendent Vachell who appeared in the first three books. Huxley did write six other novels, though non-criminous, and over thirty works of non-fiction.
