Further Information
Edgar Wallace, born 1875 and died 1932, was born in London and after a variety of jobs and serving his country became of the most popular authors of his time. To say he was prolific is clearly an understatement, in addition to the above there are also non-criminous titles, plays, more short stories and other works. the prodigious output was certainly responsible for occasional lapses in quality and accuracy. Indeed, he became something of a byword for this but to apply the criticism to all his work would be an injustice. He had several series characters; Inspector Elk, Four Just Men, Superintendent Minter, The Scooper, J.G. Reeder and TB Smith. Collectors trying to amass a full set of Edgar Wallace 1st editions certainly have a Herculean task ahead of them. The titles were reissued many times, usually in attractive period dust jackets, these can be acquired with relative ease and at reasonable cost.
