It was unfortunate that Mr Conner McGinn, steel millionaire, chose Saturday, August 15th, on which to get in touch with the Toff. For that was the first day of the Test Match, and the Toff had made up his mind that nothing in the world would stop him from seeing the first ball bowled. But Mr McGinn, being an American, did not understand the sanctity of the day, and furthermore, he had something so urgent and important on his mind that he succeeded in luring the Toff away from his favourite sport. All the same, if the Toff hadn't been so crazy about cricket the case might never have been solved. |
