Sir Abercrombie was not of those who hug and nourish their sorrows. He longed to regain his normal serenity (or abnormal self-satisfaction, as his critics would have said) and had every expectation of doing so once he was installed in his own home. But his comfortable flat and his comfortable wife brought him no solace; nor did the omelette aux fines herbes which Georgina Lewker, knowing it to be her masterpiece and her husband's favourite, prepared for him. Georgie's reaction to his story of The Dowager's sad end was equally dissappointing. |
