Without looking at the sergeant, George Hudson hits the table in front of him with his fist.
" Damn it," he explodes. "Isn't that what I'm trying to do? Only you won't listen to me p.-cpcrly. You keep on breaking the train of my thought. But I told you, you must let me tell this thing in my own way."
George reaches across the desk and takes back the sergeant's packet of cigarettes. He lights up with an expensive looking lighter. Then he gapes at the lighter, as if he were surprised to see it in his own hand.
He says, " Mary gave me this lighter for my birthday. But everything Mary did was calculated, everything was part of a diabolical plan . . . the iibsolutely water-tight murder."
