SYNOPSIS
Wit, ingenuity, and good writing have seldom been better combined than in this story. Here Mr. Berkeley
had a really magnificent idea, He
made the brilliant detective Mr. Roger Sheringham act in such a fashion that he brought himself under very strong suspicion. That is a situation which, as far as we know, has not been eac-ploited before, and Mr, Berkeley has made very good use of his opportunity. It is a novel of surprises, and the best one is kept till the very end. It may seem rather a trick ending, as it no doubt is, but it is quite consistent with the evidence and certainly makes a witty climax to a witty piece of work.
